Wow, that was a surprise!
So, there I was during the Christmas break just finishing off the last of the turkey in a nice sandwich and then 'DING'! My iPad notifies me I have an email confirming that I have been shortlisted to receive an Driving Instructor Industry Award! a GOLDEN 'L'
Wow! I was a little surprised to say the least. The nomination for the Award in my category is presented to a particular Driving Instructor who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help their pupils or others succeed. To then go on to read some of the fantastic comments by past pupils who nominated me, really made my Christmas.

Wow! I was a little surprised to say the least. The nomination for the Award in my category is presented to a particular Driving Instructor who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help their pupils or others succeed. To then go on to read some of the fantastic comments by past pupils who nominated me, really made my Christmas.
Why I do what I do
Many times people who I know or who have just met have said to me, "How can you do what you do?","How can you be a Driving Instructor?", "How do you have the patience?" I always reply, "I love my job because its actually not about me succeeding its about helping others succeed and achieve things they themselves might not of thought possible. I have best job in the world!"
I think when you have a passion for something and believe strongly in trying to make a difference, I guess it shows though and people notice it. I do have a passion for helping people achieve what they want to achieve. I guess that comes from my upbringing but also my many years in business management and achieving fantastic things (winning 20/30 million pound contracts) with a great team of people.
I have been lucky and able to do many things; jump out of a plane, travel the world and experience some fantastic cultures and people with different outlooks and motivations in life. I have seen people in desperate poverty in Bangladesh trying to survive and brushed shoulders with rich and the famous. Don't laugh but back in the eighties I bought the lead signer from the eighties band 'Blancmange' Neil Arthur, an after gig pint at the bar of Rock City - Nottingham, had a great conversation with Dr Who (the late John Pertwee ) in Birmingham at the Pebble Mill studios and chatted with Jenson Button (F1 Driver) for 20 minutes once on the Channel Tunnel on the way to France just before he won the F1 Championship.
Now I have a new passion for the safety and success of others. So when I see hard work and dedication in others and in the pupil sat next to me on my right it spurs me on. I genuinely want what my pupils want. I want them to achieve, feel that sense of pride in what they have done, have their confidence lifted that they pretty much can achieve anything if they dedicate themselves and put their mind to it.
I am really honored that I have reached a short list of only 12 Instructors that have been nominated Nationally and the only Instructor in the local area to reach the short list. Thank you all!
